The University of Southern Indiana’s Tri-State Science and Engineering Fair for students in grades K-12 will be held Thursday and Friday, March 10-11 in the Recreation, Fitness and Wellness Center (RFWC) on campus.
The Fair has been hosted annually by USI since 2007.
Visiting students will view projects by nearly 200 K-12th grade students from within a 75-mile radius of Evansville.
Categories include animal sciences, behavioral and social sciences, chemistry and biochemistry, earth and environmental sciences, physical and chemical energy, engineering, mathematics, medicine and health sciences, microbiology and molecular/cellular biology, physics, astronomy, plant sciences, robotics, computers and systems software.
Senior Division
A Grand Award winner will be selected at each Senior Division grade level—ninth to 12th—and will receive a trophy and $300. Five Senior Division Honorable Mention Award winners will receive a trophy and $150 and will be determined based on the number of entries from each grade level.
Junior Division
A Grand Award winner will be selected at each Junior Division grade level—sixth through eighth—and will receive a trophy and $150. Seven Junior Division Honorable Mention Award winners will receive a trophy and $75 and will be determined based on the number of entries from each grade level.
Elementary Division
One Grand Award winner from fourth and fifth grades will receive a trophy and $50, and one Honorable Mention Award winner will receive a trophy and $25.
One Grand Award winner from kindergarten through third grades will receive a trophy and $50.
Students will set their projects up in the RFWC from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, March 10, and judging will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. that evening. The Fair will be open for public viewing from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, March 11. The awards ceremony will be held virtually from 6-7 p.m. Monday, March 14. Up to 21 projects from each of the three divisions will go on to compete in the Hoosier Science and Engineering Fair later this spring.
