Former Indiana Lt. Governor
Lead Director, Corporate Board, Old National Bank
Becky Skillman has spent her entire career serving Indiana through her roles as an elected official, community leader and advocate for rural communities across the state.
After her start as an elected official in Lawrence County, Skillman became the first woman to hold the office of Indiana State Senator, District 44, and went on to serve as the first woman to Chair the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus. During her 12 years in the Senate, she led the charge to include the state’s small towns and rural communities in its economic development agenda.
Skillman holds the historic distinction of the first woman elected as Lt. Governor of the State of Indiana. From 2005 to 2013, Skillman held more legal duties than any other Lt. Governor in the country. Upon taking office, Skillman also served as the Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development under the state’s Department of Agriculture and Office of Community and Rural Affairs. She managed five state agencies in total and administered more than $1 billion in programs. Other agencies under Skillman’s direction as Lt. Governor included the Office of Energy Development, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, and the Office of Tourism Development. Additionally, she chaired the state’s Counter Terrorism and Security Council, the intergovernmental entity responsible for homeland security, and served as President of the Indiana Senate. Skillman also was responsible for shepherding the Daniels/Skillman administration’s legislative agenda through the Indiana General Assembly.
In 2013, Skillman began serving on the Board of Directors for Old National Bancorp, which is the oldest and largest financial services bank holding company headquartered in Indiana. Since 2016, she has served as the company’s Lead Corporate Director.
She is Chairwoman of Radius Indiana, an economic development partnership representing eight counties in southern Indiana: Crawford, Daviess, Dubois, Greene, Lawrence, Martin, Orange and Washington. From 2013 through 2016, Skillman served as President and CEO of the organization.
Skillman continues to share her leadership experience as an advisor for the Indiana University Center for Rural Engagement as well as the Bowen Center for Public Affairs at Ball State University. She also serves as a mentor to the Mitch Daniels Leadership Foundation Fellows.
In 2020, Skillman was selected as one of six Hoosiers to serve on Governor Holcomb’s Economic Relief and Recovery Task Force in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Skillman is an alumna of Indiana Wesleyan University. She and her husband, Steve, have a son, Aaron.
